Show Your Bumble Matches You’re a Voter—and Register to Vote in the Next Elections

In the last midterm elections, millennials and Gen Z turned out in record numbers when compared to their turnout in 2018, with women in particular making the difference in the most contested of races.

While the U.S. presidential election isn’t until 2024, we at Bumble don’t believe in “off years”—even at the local level, it’s critical to show up at the ballot box and exercise your right to vote!

Members of our Bumble community agree, according to new data we commissioned in partnership with our longtime allies at nonprofit I am a voter. Of Gen Z respondents, 1 in 3 (33%) said they’re more likely to swipe right on a Bumble profile that showcases a potential match’s commitment to activism. Nearly 2 in 5 (39%) of those young voters surveyed say it’s important to (respectfully!) discuss politics on a first date.

Democracy works best when we all participate. It’s easy to show your pride in civic engagement on both Bumble and Bumble for Friends by adding the “I am a voter” Badge to your bio. Let your potential matches know you’re committed to casting your ballot. We hope this will lead to interesting and impassioned—but civil!—conversations. After all, more than half (54%) of Gen Zs surveyed said it’s important to have a partner who can discuss, or understand, both sides of a political issue.

If you’re chatting with a new pal on Bumble for Friends or a potential date on Bumble and looking for an icebreaker, consider reminding your match to register to vote. Our data shows it could make a real difference! Of our survey respondents, more than 1 in 4 (27%) said they’ve encouraged at least one friend to vote in the past. And 2 in 5 (40%) of the Gen Z folks surveyed said they’re more likely to vote if a friend goes with them. National Voter Registration Day and Register a Friend Day are both September 19 in the U.S. this year, so mark your calendars and drop your matches a message!

At Bumble, we want our community to feel empowered in every aspect of your lives. That includes at the ballot box.
